Three main topics: Security considerations with your wording, Attaching your brass luggage tags, Other uses for brass luggage tags This one's just for fun... 1. Security considerations with your wordingYou want enough information on your brass luggage tag to clearly indentify who you are and how to contact you. This allows you to know at a glance it’s really your bag on the baggage carousal, and gives lost luggage a chance to find it’s way back to you. However, please do consider whether you want your first name and address on the tag. Barb Jones I do not recommend putting first names on luggage tags. Consider these senarios: A man reads your first name on your luggage tag, then later aproaches you in the deserted section of the huge airport parking lot. Or he reads your first name on the tag while you were checking into a motel. Later he approaches you as you’re trying to open your motel room door. "Hey, Barb" he says, "How’s it going?". That few moments of confusion on your part could give him the advantage he is looking for to get close enough to grab your purse, or worse. If he said "Hey, B. Jones," or "Hey Jones Family" you'd be instantly on the alert! I would also discourage putting your address on the luggage tag. Chances are, some one isn’t going to mail your luggage back to your address unless they’ve contacted you by phone first. If someone steals your luggage, it’s really obvious that you are not at the address on the tag. And now they know exactly what address you are not currently at! If you travel as part of your business, or if the company you work for doesn’t mind, you could put the company name and phone number on the luggage tag. If your luggage was found, and the company was called, they would know who B. Jones is, and you’d have a contact while you were gone. Here’s some safer alternatives: A tip to help identify your luggage quickly on the luggage carousals or at conventions: tie bright colored curly ribbons on the luggage handles. Or, if you’re artistic, paint something on both sides of your luggage. 2. Attaching your brass luggage tags
